What is a DAW?

A DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is a software which is designed to edit and record audio and MIDI. It can be used for recording sessions, arrangement, mixing and mastering purposes. Although I recommend use of a DAW as a software, there are also online DAWs that you can try as well.

Why DAWs are so important for music producers?

In today’s modern music production world, almost all songs are made or finished in a DAW. A song might include vocals or real instruments but at the end recorded channels must be edited as to create a finished song or the audio files must be arranged in a way to form a suitable song structure.

Since many functions are done within a DAW, a producer should pick a DAW wisely because he or she will be spending a lot of time in it.

The best way to pick the most suitable DAW for you is to download trial versions of popular DAWs and check the user experience. Different DAWs have different workflows, therefore the taste is up to you.
